Mountain Biking
Starting at the Hemel-en-Aarde Village, five different routes will take you deep into the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley where beautiful views are only a part of the enjoyment. Each track has its own difficulty and will cater for every class and style of mountain biker. From river meanders to vineyard and some stunning views over Hermanus and the Overstrand.

Rules and Conditions:
• Use the trail at own and absolute risk
• Only permit holders allowed on trails
•
Do not cycle, walk or run alone
• Abide to all route notifications
• No litter, smoking, fires or shouting is allowed
• Stay on the marked routes
•
No quads, motorbikes and/or vehicles are allowed on the route and will be confiscated
(Excluding those of landowners and staff)
• No power assisted bicycles are allowed
• Obey the instructions of cycling marshals and land owners on the trails.
• The trails are clockwise, no ‘against traffic’ is allowed
(The first +- 1Km is two-way traffic)
OR
There is also a 17Km (10.5 miles) circular mountain bike trail. This intermediate trail consists of mailnly jeep tracks but also incorporates single track area (incluing a few sandy and rocky sections) and tar roads.
The trails are signposted for clockwise travel and may be joined at any point, although it is best to start at Fernwood Reserve.
The route skirts the houses, passing through profuse Fynbos with butterflies, birds, baboons, mongoose, frogs, tortoises, snakes and lizards. There are plenty of viewpoints to stop at, so take it slowly and enjoy the scenery.
Do not stray onto paths excluding bicycles and respect the rules of the Fernkloof Nature Reserve. The Hermanus Cycle trail leads east from the Fernkloof gardens, crosses the Mossel River and runs above Voelklip turning south and west again at the Vogelgat boundary.
